                Sweeping­carpets­in­an­office­bu­il­ding­in­North­Canton,­OHIO,­US,­irritated­
              Murray­Spangler’s­asthma.­He­invented­his­own­assistant­–­a­machine­which­
              cleaned­the­carpets­by­blowing­the­dust­into­a­bag.­In­1907­Spangler­showed­his­
              machine­to­a­relative,­William­Hoover,­a­leather goods manufacturer.­Hoover­
              at­once­saw­bu­si­ness­in­Spangler’s­machine­and­bought­the­manufacturing­rights.
                In­1908­Hoover­began­to­make­the­vacuum­cleaner,­which­he­called­„Model­
              0”.­It­weighed­about­100­pounds,­ran­on­wheels­and­had­a­bag­with­a­six-foot­
              long­handle­to­keep­the­ope ra tor at­a­distance­from­the­cleaning.­The­machine­
              was­successful­and­in­ten­years­Hoover’s­company­stopped­making­leather-goods­
              and­ concentrated­ on­ vacuum­ cleaners.­ He­ became­ famous­ all­ over­ the­ world.­
              Housemaids­and­housewives­didn’t­have­to­be­at­carpets­any­mo­re.
